Yang Architecture
The ecology centre was my first attempt at exploring how the landscape could be manipulated to form a visually integrated structure that would blend with nature. In the end, it evolved into something with a much more visual impact than I had initially intended. However, it became a learning experience for me that not all concepts needed to be perfectly captured in that initial statement made at the beginning of a project and that things were allowed to change and evolve. In this project, the idea was to almost blend in with the surrounding hills and mountains by “pulling” the fabric of the site out of the ground and tucking a building under that slice, resulting in a small hill. In the end, it became a much more people-focused, social structure whilst still having that hill effect.
