Montessori Origins:
Urban Daycare
This project grew out of course discussions around childcare and the importance of sensory experiences in early development. I wanted to challenge myself by taking a more formalist approach to design, starting with the simple shape of a Greek alpha — a symbol of beginnings. At first, I struggled with how to stay true to that formalism while still responding to the site. In the end, that internal struggle became part of the concept itself: I used elevation and circulation to explore the relationship between the urban neighborhood and the open field beyond. The circular floor plan created shifting views as you moved through the building, capturing the feeling of being at the edge of two distinct environments.
